The New Computer Blues… How To Secure Your New Computer

What to do when your computer heaves it’s last sigh, and caves to a fried hard drive…

We know how it feels when you’re on deadline and your computer has turned on for the last time. Is it possible to even retrieve those files? Yes and no… there are numerous programs out there you can use to see if retrieving those files is possible. But if you’re not exactly Mission Impossible’s Ethan Hunt, there are still things you can do to protect your data files.

1) Backup your data – we’ve said it before, we’ll say it again. Use a cloud service or talk to SecurShred to see our suite of services catered to your sensitive data.

2) Apply Available Updates IMMEDIATELY – we know, it’s an inconvenience when that icon pops up, but there’s a reason updates and patches come to you. Pay attention and update when you can, or better yet, turn on auto-updates.

3) Install a Password Manager – LastPass has a nice program that can also be used on your smartphone.

4) Destroy your old hard drive – Do NOT assume your computer is completely dead. While your files may look like they’ve “disappeared,” they could still be somewhere on the hard drive. Don’t risk your sensitive data – Ship n Destroy securely destroys your old devices safely and securely. Visit shipndestroy.com to find out how cost-effective this solution is for your organization.
