3 Warning Signs of Hard-Drive Failure

If the Blue Screen of Death has darkened your door (or screen…) does this mean you’ve lost your data forever?

Symptoms Before A Hard-Drive Failure

  • Overheating – If you find your laptop’s running hot, try getting a Heat Shift pad to help lower the temperature.
  • Noises – If you’re hearing strange noises, there might be dust trapped in the fan. Clean the fan with a dust blower or replace the fan to cool your laptop.
  • Clicking or Grinding – STOP what you’re doing and use a 3rd-party tool like Crystal Disk Info (PC) or Drive DX (Mac). Start the program and if it lists your drives as anything but “Good,” back-up your data immediately.

Once your data is backed-up, consider replacing your drive with an SSD – it’ll last longer and may speed up your computer.

If, unfortunately, your hard-drive is beyond repair, whatever you do, DON’T  leave your sensitive data at a recycling center! Here’s what to do next:
